Infinite informative articles and myth busting initiatives have not erased the mysterious notion of a hypnotist being someone who can make you do things you do not want to.

"I am too strong to be hypnotized" - people find pride in this mostly untested ability. Ironically, To be hypnotized, one needs a certain strength of mind, a certain focus, awareness, and the ability to allow your subconscious to show you its innermost depths. Most importantly, to be hypnotized, one needs courage - to face what is hidden and suppressed. As James Baldwin put it - "Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can change unless it is faced."

So- what is hypnosis?

It is mostly common knowledge that the mind has two parts to it - the conscious and the subconscious.

When awake, it is mostly the conscious mind that works – at least, we like to believe this. The conscious mind is logical - it analyzes, and uses language and thought to deduce solutions to problems. On the other hand, when we sleep it is the subconscious mind that takes over and we dream- seeing strange metaphorical happenings, vivid stories involving people we sometimes don’t even know.

Hypnosis is the state that allows you to access your subconscious mind through your conscious mind; You are able to focus your attention and overcome your blocks to suggestibility, all in a state of complete physical relaxation.

A person trained in hypnotherapy can help you identify the core issue that is causing your problems and then help you deal with and let go of it.

Normally, when I tell people they have the power to solve all their problems, they respond in two ways. Either they say -yes, of course, thats why I don't have any, or they simply nod, look at me like I'm an alien and immediately throw the idea out. In a hypnotic state, however, a suggestion like this is accepted much easier, and in turn, it becomes much easier to solve the problem.

Hypnotherapy is a very supportive and useful process, one that can be used to reach your highest goals and achieve your biggest dreams. If you are one of those who don’t know what their goals and dreams are, then hypnosis can help you understand your own strengths and weaknesses, realise what matters, or even to find out why you are afraid to have goals and dreams.

My biggest leaps in knowing and understanding myself have come from allowing myself to get into a hypnotic state, where I can be guided into searching for the root cause of patterns that limit me. Hypnotherapy is not about letting someone else control you. It is, in fact, the total opposite - it is the quickest means to achieving total control over all parts of your body and mind.
